Ryan Coelho – Race Director / CEO
Ryan was born in Mountain View, California and holds a Bachelors Degree in Business with a concentration of Management Information Systems (MIS) from San Jose State University. He has an extensive background in sales, marketing, event production, project management and product management. He has held a number of project management positions in the Corporate world, working at Silicon Graphics and Sun Microsystems, as well as 20+ years experience in the event management arena.
Ryan received his USA Triathlon Race Director Certificaton in March of 2011 and looks to work with USA Triathlon in several unique ways moving forward. His passion for health and wellness comes through 25+ years with type 1 diabetes and strives to educate others about proper food intake and exercise. He continues to be active in endurance sports to maintain his diabetes.
Ryan and Brandy Coelho were married in 2008, reside in Pleasanton, California, and hold their son Caden Coelho dear to their hearts.

Phillip Van Ornum – Transition Director
Phillip was born in southern California then moved to the northern part of the state settling in Castro Valley. A furniture artisan who grew up working in the family shop he makes heirloom quality pieces of art in wood. Throughout his youth Phillip was an avid bicycle rider then was introduced to cross country skiing, weight training and then Jet skiing.
Phillip has been inspired by the incredible achievements of family members and through a life changing challenge has re-kindled his love for athleticism. Recently he has found a passion for running. His drive to be a triathlete has proven to be a great way to strive for excellence in all aspects of his life. As the USAP Transition Director his focus will be on Safety, Security & Cheerleading. Phillip thrives on the fuel of the passionate and inspirational feats of the athletes he supports. His Motto: Never Surrender!
